This type of sign in process lets Travel Calc's focus on making a great cocktail app while leveraging Google's for account security. They have security experts - we have cocktail experts.
Does this allow Travel Calc to access your photos, emails, documents, etc?
Not at all. When you go to the Google sign in page, you'll see what information our site requests from Google. We only ask for specific information we'll use in this site. Here's what we request and why:
- google_id: this is a unique identifier - a string of numbers, which we Google users to identify your account as not someone else's.
- email address: we'll use this for notifications and any support emails we send to you.
- display name: used for comments and sharing of recipes between users. When you create your profile with Travel Calc, you can change your display name.
- first name: we'll use this when we reach out to you for any support needs. Google sends us this by default and we're looking at ways to not receive it.
- last name: we'll use this when we reach out to you for any support needs. Google sends us this by default and we're looking at ways to not receive it.
What information does Google get from us about you?
Google knows that you've authenticated to Travel Calc. Separately, Travel Calc uses Google Analytics to track general metrics on the site, such as what pages are most popular, which pages take longer to load, etc.
